I assume you know how to use Joomla! and you know how to install the modules, components and plug-ins. This article is a very basic start for people who want to turn their HTML / CSS templates into Joomla! format.

This tutorial can annoy some of the Joomla! Gurus but trust me I have seen lots and lots of request about this matter so; I go to the point and a very simple way with some examples.

First Make a folder name it whatever you name your website for example epicdesign.com.au

You need the below file management:

  • CSS folder which contains template.css
  • templateDetails.xml: The structure of you website, all the positions, I will talk about it more
  • index.php: your actual template file
  • template_thumbnail.png : a preview of your site
  • favicon.ico
  • index.html: Nothing in this file just in case if someone wanted to get direct access to this folder

I assume you are very new to Joomla! That's why you bother to read this so I am not worry about parameters and their usage.

So just download the pdf and use the sample code, you are more than welcome to drop your comments and let me know what you thinking about this quick tut.
